Dr. P. Jayakumar, a distinguished orthodontist, brings with him a wealth of knowledge from his extensive academic excellence. He completed his BDS in 1974-75 at Madras University, where he excelled as the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Mathias Gold Medal for the best outgoing student in 1975, and he was additionally honoured with the J.A.S Masilamani Prize for medicine in 973–74. His dedication to dentistry led him to pursue a Master's in the specialty of orthodontics, which he successfully obtained in 1979 from Madras University.
Since 1976, Dr. Jayakumar has consistently shown his commitment to public service through his extensive service in the Tamil Nadu government. Over the years, he has contributed significantly in various capacities, including assistant dental surgeon, associate professor, and professor at esteemed institutions such as Madras Dental College, Stanley Medical College, and Sri Ramachandra Medical College.
His leadership role as Vice Principal at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Chennai, saw the establishment of the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. Dr. Jayakumar played a pivotal role in initiating the MDS programme for orthodontics at the college, beginning in 1999. His dedication and leadership qualities earned him the position of principal in 2004/2005.
Leaving an indelible mark on the institution's growth and development, Dr. Jayakumar's impact extends beyond teaching and clinical practice. He served as the Vice-Chancellor in charge at MAHER University until 2015.
In addition to his illustrious career in academia and public service, Dr. Jayakumar embarked on private practice in T Nagar in 1976.
